Apple Tests Chinese Memory Chips from CXMT Amid AI-Driven Supply Crunch

Apple is testing memory chips made by China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) for potential use in iPhones and MacBooks, according to a Wall Street Journal report circulated Monday. The evaluation comes as demand from artificial-intelligence data centres has drained global DRAM supply and pushed memory prices sharply higher, squeezing consumer-electronics makers that compete for the same capacity as server buyers. CXMT is China's largest DRAM producer and has been expanding output as Beijing pushes for domestic self-sufficiency in semiconductors. Qualifying a new memory supplier typically takes multiple test cycles, and the reports did not indicate that Apple has committed to using CXMT parts in shipping products. Apple has not publicly commented on the report.
